🌿 Botanical Description

Prunus persica is a small deciduous tree 3-5 m high, with a wide branching crown up to 6 m in diameter. The bark of the trunk is reddish-brown, scaly. The leaves of the common peach are elongated-lanceolate, pilate, alternate, with a wedge-shaped base and a pointed tip. The flowers are almost sessile, pink and red, appear before the development of the leaves. The fruit is flat to elongated-elliptical in shape, with a groove on one side, usually velvety. The bone (endocarp) is wrinkled and furrowed with dotted dimples and a pointed tip. The fruit of the common peach is a soft and juicy fleshy drupe. The bone is large, with pits and grooves. The skin is covered with down, the color in mature form can vary from white-straw and yellow-green to yellow-red, bright orange, pink and burgundy. The flesh is yellow, sometimes white. By weight, the fruits on average can be from 60 to 200 grams.
